Never Without You

Valerie's random thoughts about Dark Shadows, especially my OTP, Barnabas and Julia. Hopeless fangurl of the fabulous Grayson Hall and Jonathan Frid.

The curse has begun again! And this time, it will reach its ultimate conclusion. Barnabas will be brought to his fate by the woman he loves!”

His task successfully complete, Angelique allows Sam to return to his eternal rest. Angelique enjoys a giggle at Barnabas expense.

*Final appearance of David Ford and the character of Sam Evans.

“Perhaps in the case of Barnabas Collins, death would be a blessing.”

The ghost of Sam Evans appears to Vicki. She doesn’t want to listen to the dream because Barnabas will die. Sam tells her death isn’t the worst thing that could happen to Barnabas (indicating that Ghost Sam is privy to information in the Great Beyond that the living Sam knew nothing about). Vicki cries and whimpers and pleads, but Sam tells her the dream.

*It’s interesting that Alexandra Moltke, who usually played even hysterical Vicki somewhat more reserved and subdued than the average shrieking DS ingenue, seems to have joined the ranks in this episode. I don’t recall Vicki being this upset even when she was about to be hanged. lol

Cassandralique raises Sam Evans from the dead. He must tell Vicki the dream or she will never allow him to return to his grave.

*Ew, ugly shoes, Angelique.

Professor Stokes stops Vicki from listening to Sam’s dream. It must go no further. He sees Adam lurking outside Sam’s hospital room. Adam has a brief reunion with his “Friend.” Vicki promises to stay away from Sam but is too compassionate to do so. Sam, however, dies before he can tell her the dream.

Vicki must hear the dream, for it is she who will take the final step and carry the dream to Barnabas Collins!”

Joe fetches Vicki, who is about to leave for Portsmouth with Jeff. Maggie alerts Professor Stokes that Sam has had the dream, while Cassandra implores Sam not to die until he has passed the dream on to Vicki. Vicki is the one who will return the curse to Barnabas. Sam begins to tell Vicki the dream.

Vicki is Sam’s beckoner. His dream shows Maggie in mourning, and he insists he must tell Vicki the dream and die in peace.

“Through sight and sound and faceless terror;
Through endless corridors by trial and error;

Ahead a blazing light does burn;
And one door leads to the point of return.”

*As many consistently ask about this installment of the dream, if Sam is blind, how does he know what’s behind the doors? How does he even know there are doors to open? lol

Cassandra interupts, full of phoney concern for Sam. She sends Joe and Maggie on a coffee break and has Sam drink a dream inducing potion. She finds his ramblings about Adam quite interesting.

*Neither Maggie nor Joe question why Cassandra Collins gives two hoots about Sam, whom she barely knows.

Joe and Maggie make up after their quarrel about Willie and manage to look adorable even while worrying about Pop.

“Kill Maggie!”

Fearing for Pop’s safety, Maggie attacks Adam with a hammer. Sam believes he can reason with his new best friend. He’s wrong. Maggie and Willie knee beside her unconscious father.

Adam releases Maggie when he realizes he is hurting her. A try at phoning the police fails. Willie tries to placate Adam. He didn’t mean to hurt Adam and didn’t he always bring him food? They distract him with Josette’s earrings. Maggie freaks when Sam returns home.

Barnabas! Hurt!”

The connection between Adam and Barnabas kicks in as the pain in Barnabas’ bound wrists is felt in Adam’s wrists. Adam cries out Barnabas’ name.

My name is Adam.”

Adam and Sam get acquainted. Adam learns a few more words. Sam is just happy someone is actually listening to him.

Adam and Sam come to a mutual understanding. Adam understands that Sam can’t see him and Sam understands that Adam is hurt. Sam tends to Adam’s arm wound. They are interrupted by Professor Stokes and Adam runs off.

*First kinescope episode in quite awhile.

Joe sees Sam home.Sam finds he has company: a blood-stained Adam, brandishing a large butcher knife and looking a tad ticked off.

Angelique compels Sam to come to the Old House. He feels that Professor Stokes has something to tell him, even though they are strangers to each other. Stokes admits that he and Sam have met in a dream, but refuses to discuss it further.

*Nice try, Angelique lol

*Funniest line of this scene: “Joe and I were spending the evening together while Maggie is in Bangor.”
